Yes I know this is a rip off of the HP commercials and it is a little more complicated than you expect. While scripting you forget about some aspects and hand interactions. So this is what I have been doing the last half of this week.

After weeks of just going, going and going alone I relearned the pleasure of extended pre-production. Now that we have a team of video producers we were able to script and plan this one out. Granted we found out about the request Friday, shot Tuesday and edited Thursday and Friday. We’re getting there.

This is a comp I threw together in 10 minutes. I liked it and I’m a little disappointed that no one told me sooner how easy it is to work with clouds. Since I posted the video it has been cleaned up and made a little more cohesive.

This is a sample of a karaoke track I created for a student ministries “Don’t Forget the Lyrics” game. I took a jumpback and altered it to make it super 80’s with some killer lightening (thanks Joe). I’m most happy where the lyrics are at. The font with the cycling color is very Atari and 80’s. I love it.

So this is a video sample of something we did last Christmas. There is no sound so you will have to hum the tune.

It’s funny to look back on things. This was the greatest thing we had ever done. Nate and I came up with this great idea and struggled to pull it off. We took turns in the editor’s seat. And when the dust settled we pulled it off. It was seemless. Ha.

I still do love the concept and love the nuts and bolts of this project. I love that we built something entirely from scratch using all different vector images from different sources and created something that was very cohesive. I love the way the emissions work in the space and with the movement of the piece. With all that said I would be embarrassed to show it as it is this year. I would have to clean this up drastically.

I love seeing how Nate and I have both grown at what we do. With the same type of concept and similar tools at hand here is something Nate did for his new church last week.

Jeff shares a parallel illustration. Something new that Jeff suggested. I think it works well, but I’m on the inside. I had a couple of people ask “what’s the deal with the cake?” I think after you watch it you will think they were not paying attention.

Trying something new here (and maybe this will be a bad idea), but anyways this is a demo/concept for a care ministries promo. There already has been some feedback, but I want to hear what you have to say.

Jeff shares a wonderful story of meeting new neighbors. Only to Jeff Griffin does stuff like this happen.

Meet Cleve and Katie Persinger they are new to staff and will now forever be known as the cursing staff members. We only used them because they are not known to the congregation just yet, but it turned out they could act a little.

Jeff and Dan show how to have an impact on the game. Good concept. I think Dan might be a little overboard but him and Jeff sell it like they always do. This was shown this last weekend at all campuses. We’ve found that the senior pastor ask is the most important part in children’s ministry recruitment at the Chapel. This was the shoot that I got the clouds shot from.

On a side note the parks and rec guy came over to see what we were doing before we started, and was fine with it, but made sure to turn off the sprinkler system that was going to turn on in 15 minutes. If it had turned on it would have run all night.

The Panasonic HVX-200 never ceases to amaze me. I got to a shoot 20 minutes early and noticed the gorgeous clouds, set up the camera and here it is. Maybe you are not as impressed, but I love everything I shoot with these. Special thanks to my friend Brian Gaffner for shooting tips that lead to beautiful footage like this.

This is a promo video that I am happy with. It is for this coming weekend so I guess that makes it a sneak peak. I always feel like promo pieces are way too long. WAY TOO LONG! I always watch commercials with this sense of awe that they can connect you to a product in 30 seconds and we have a tough time getting people to sign up for things when we talk about it for 4 minutes. I personally think that’s the problem. We answer too many questions, we remove the mystique and we aren’t connecting people in a way they are used to being connected to something.

I am very happy with what we ended up with. Even though I have been falling out of love with the idea of ripping things off, I like what we ripped off. People are moved by Nike’s piece and I think we captured that feel. I think the testimonies are inspiring and it maintains that shroud of mystery that Men’s Fraternity has.
